How to trade on Arc with USDC: a beginner's guide

By the arky team · Published

To trade on Arc with USDC: set up an EVM wallet, add Arc (chain ID 5042), bridge USDC over Circle's CCTP, then open arky at app.arky.bet. There you can trade memecoins, take USDC-settled prediction positions and ask Scout, your AI agent. USDC also pays gas, so you never need ETH.

This is the practical version: what you need, the order to do it in, and what to check at each step. It assumes you have used a crypto wallet before but never touched Arc. Arc facts are linked to Circle's own docs; arky steps describe the app as it runs on Arc mainnet today. Nothing here is financial advice.

Step 1: Set up an EVM wallet

Install a browser wallet such as MetaMask. Write the recovery phrase on paper and keep it offline; no legitimate app, arky included, will ever ask for it. If you already use a wallet on Ethereum, Base or Arbitrum, you can use the same one. arky supports multiple wallets, so you can keep a separate trading wallet if you prefer.

Step 2: Add the Arc network

Arc mainnet uses chain ID 5042. Circle publishes the RPC endpoints and explorer on the Arc docs: connect to Arc page. Copy them from there rather than from a random post, because fake RPCs are a common phishing trick. arky will also prompt your wallet to switch networks when you connect. Our step-by-step guide to adding Arc to MetaMask has screenshots.

Step 3: Get USDC onto Arc

USDC is both your trading balance and your gas on Arc. Fees are charged in USDC and quoted in dollars (Arc docs), so you do not need to buy a separate gas coin.

The cleanest route is Circle's Cross-Chain Transfer Protocol (CCTP). It burns USDC on the chain you leave and mints native USDC on Arc, so you never hold a wrapped version (Circle: Cross-Chain Transfer Protocol). arky's Deposit wizard runs this flow step by step from inside the app: pick the source chain, enter the amount, approve and sign, then wait for the mint on Arc. You can also use any other CCTP-based bridge. The bridge USDC to Arc guide compares the options.

Start with a small test amount. Confirm it arrives, then send the rest.

Step 4: Open arky and finish onboarding

Go to app.arky.bet and connect your wallet. A short guide walks you through the essentials and only ticks a step when the real state is there: your wallet is connected, you are on Arc, your USDC balance is above zero, and you have made a first move. You can skip it and reopen it later.

Step 5: Trade a memecoin

On arky, new memecoins launch on a bonding curve and graduate to a Uniswap v4 pool. Before you buy:

Your wallet signs every trade, and arky checks the fill on chain. Because Arc reaches deterministic finality in under a second (Arc docs), a confirmed fill is final. Want to make your own? See how to launch a memecoin on Arc.

Step 6: Take a prediction position

Prediction markets on arky are settled in USDC on Arc. Open a market and read three things before you stake: the exact question, the resolution source and the end date. Pick an outcome, enter your USDC stake and sign. The price of an outcome reflects the market's implied probability, so a position bought at a low price pays more if it resolves your way. The how prediction markets work guide covers pricing and settlement in depth.

Step 7: Ask Scout

Every arky user gets Scout, an AI agent built into the terminal. Scout answers from live arky data, proposes trades, and can draft or launch a memecoin for you. It cannot move your funds on its own: anything it proposes still needs your wallet signature. Useful first questions:

More on what Scout can and cannot do in the AI trading agent guide.

Step 8: Withdraw when you are done

Use the Send wizard to move USDC to another wallet or back to another chain over CCTP. As with deposits, try a small amount first if the destination is new to you.

Common mistakes

  1. Buying ETH for gas. You do not need it on Arc; USDC pays gas.
  2. Using an RPC from a random tweet. Copy network details from the Arc docs.
  3. Sending a large first transfer. Always test with a small amount.
  4. Treating memecoins like savings. Many launchpad tokens lost more than half their value within a day of mainnet (CoinDesk).
  5. Letting any tool, or person, hold your keys. On arky, you sign everything.

FAQ

How do I get USDC on Arc?

Bridge USDC from another chain with Circle's Cross-Chain Transfer Protocol (CCTP), which burns USDC on the source chain and mints native USDC on Arc. arky's Deposit wizard runs this flow step by step inside the app.

Do I need ETH for gas on Arc?

No. Arc uses USDC as its native gas token, so transaction fees are paid in USDC and quoted in dollars. You only need USDC to trade and pay gas.

What is the Arc chain ID?

Arc mainnet uses chain ID 5042. Get the RPC endpoints and block explorer from the connect page in Circle's Arc docs rather than from unofficial posts.

How do I add Arc to MetaMask?

Add a custom network in MetaMask with chain ID 5042 and the RPC and explorer listed in the Arc docs, or connect to arky and approve the network switch it prompts.

Can Scout trade for me without my approval?

No. Scout, arky's AI agent, can answer questions, cite sources, propose trades and draft memecoin launches, but your wallet must sign every trade. Fills are then checked on chain.

How do I withdraw USDC from Arc?

In arky, open the Send wizard and send USDC to another wallet or back to another chain over Circle's CCTP. Test with a small amount first if the destination is new.
