Crypto prediction markets: how they work and where to trade them (2026)
Crypto prediction markets are venues where you buy YES/NO or Up/Down positions on future events with crypto, usually USDC, and winners are paid out when the result settles. Polymarket and Kalshi are the largest. On Arc, arky, the trading terminal on Circle's Arc chain, runs USDC event markets and 5- and 15-minute Up/Down rounds.
A plain-English guide to crypto prediction markets in 2026: how they are built, how the main venues compare, what the rules and risks are, and how to start on Arc.
What are crypto prediction markets?
A crypto prediction market is a market where you take a YES/NO or Up/Down position on a future outcome using crypto, usually the USDC stablecoin, and a smart contract or exchange pays the winners once the result is known. The outcome can be an event (an election, a rate decision, a match) or a crypto price itself, such as "will BTC be higher in 15 minutes?".
Three things separate them from a sportsbook: the price of a position moves with what traders believe, you can usually exit before the end, and on-chain venues settle from your own wallet instead of an account balance. For the general mechanics, read how prediction markets work.
How do crypto prediction markets work?
Every crypto prediction market needs three parts: collateral, a way to match traders, and a source of truth for the result.
- Collateral. Most on-chain venues use USDC, so a winning share is worth 1 dollar. Kalshi settles in US dollars; Predict.fun uses USDT (Track360, June 2026).
- Matching. An order book pairs buyers and sellers (Polymarket, Kalshi). An automated market maker always quotes a price from a pool (arky's event markets, part of Limitless and Myriad). A pari-mutuel pot puts every bet in one pool and splits it among the winners (arky's Up/Down rounds).
- Resolution. Event markets are decided from a named public source. Price markets read an oracle: Polymarket's crypto Up/Down markets resolve on a Chainlink 60-second time-weighted average price (Polymarket changelog, Aug 2026), Kalshi's bitcoin contracts on a 60-second average of the CF Benchmarks index (June 2026), and arky's Up/Down rounds on a 60-second TWAP of RedStone signed price data (RedStone docs).
The short-dated "is BTC up or down in 5 minutes?" round has become the busiest crypto format of 2026. arky's version is explained step by step in Bitcoin Up or Down on Arc.
Best crypto prediction markets in 2026: comparison table
The table lists only facts we could source, as of October 2026. Volumes and user counts change daily and sources disagree, so they are left out.
| Platform | Chain / type | Collateral | Market model | Short crypto price rounds | Crypto price source |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Polymarket | On-chain, Polygon; separate CFTC-regulated US app | USDC | Order book | 5-min, 15-min, 1-hour, 4-hour, daily Up/Down | Chainlink, 60 s TWAP |
| Kalshi | CFTC-regulated US exchange | US dollars | Order book | 15-min, hourly, daily and longer bitcoin contracts | CF Benchmarks, 60 s average |
| Limitless | On-chain, Base | USDC | Order book and AMM | Hourly and daily price markets | Not verified |
| Myriad | On-chain, BNB Chain, Abstract, Linea | USDC and points | Order book and AMM | Not verified | Not verified |
| arky | On-chain, Arc (Circle) | Native USDC (also the gas token) | Market maker per event market; pari-mutuel pot for Up/Down | 5-min and 15-min Up/Down on 11 pairs | RedStone, 60 s TWAP |
Which one is "best" depends on where your money already sits. Polymarket and Kalshi have the deepest catalogues and longest track records. Limitless and Myriad suit Base and BNB Chain users. arky suits people on Arc who want event markets, Up/Down rounds, crypto perps and memecoins on Arc in one terminal. A longer, venue-by-venue list is in Polymarket alternatives.
What makes arky's crypto prediction markets different?
arky, the trading terminal on Circle's Arc chain, keeps everything in USDC on a chain built for dollars.
- USDC on Arc. On Arc, USDC is the gas token and blocks are final in under a second (Arc docs), so the dollars you bet with also pay the network fee and a bet is final almost at once.
- Up/Down rounds. 5-minute and 15-minute rounds on BTC, ETH, SOL and eight more pairs, settled on chain by the ArkyUpDown contract (view on the Arc explorer).
- Event markets in USDC. YES/NO markets with a market maker that quotes a price every block. Details in USDC prediction markets on Arc.
- Scout, an AI agent. Every user gets Scout, an AI trading agent that answers from live arky data and proposes trades. Your wallet signs every one.
Are crypto prediction markets legal?
It depends on the venue and where you live. In the US, Kalshi operates as a CFTC-regulated exchange (Track360), and Polymarket runs a separate CFTC-regulated US app (Crypto Briefing). Many other countries treat prediction markets as gambling, as financial products, or ban them, and the rules are changing fast. arky does not give legal advice: check your local rules and the arky terms before you trade.
The main risks are the same everywhere:
- You can lose your whole stake. A losing position pays nothing.
- Short rounds are close to a coin flip. Over 5 minutes, price noise usually outweighs any view you hold, and fees make the average result negative.
- Oracle and contract risk. A result is only as good as its price source and the contract that reads it. Read how a market settles before you bet.
- Thin markets. With few traders, prices and payouts can swing on one order.
